Jakarta and Bandung Airports Reopen as Citilink Resumes Flights After Volcanic Ash Disruption

Soekarno-Hatta Airport, Halim Perdanakusuma Airport, and Husein Sastranegara Airport in Bandung have officially reopened. Citilink has resumed flight operations to and from Jakarta and Bandung following the closures caused by volcanic ash from the Anak Krakatau eruption.

The reopening is being carried out in stages, beginning Tuesday, September 8, 2026, at 7:00 AM Western Indonesia Time (WIB). Flight operations resumed after a thorough safety assessment and careful consideration of current volcanic ash conditions.

What Passengers Need to Know

Passengers with flights scheduled from 7:00 AM WIB onward today are advised to regularly check their flight status through the Citilink website or app, and to arrive at the airport at least three hours before departure.

“Thank you for your understanding and trust throughout this operational adjustment period,” Citilink management said in a written statement received by detikTravel today.

“Citilink remains committed to ensuring all flights operate safely and smoothly, with flight safety and security remaining our top priority,” the statement added.

A Recap of the Disruption

Several airports had been closed due to the impact of the Anak Krakatau eruption, including Soekarno-Hatta and Halim Perdanakusuma airports. The disruption wasn’t limited to domestic flights either, international flights were also unable to land at Soekarno-Hatta while the closures were in effect.

What This Means for Travelers

If you have a flight booked through Jakarta or Bandung in the coming days, it’s still worth double-checking your flight status before heading to the airport, as operations are resuming in stages rather than all at once. Given how quickly volcanic ash conditions can shift, allowing extra buffer time and staying updated through official airline channels remains the safest approach until operations fully stabilize.
