Braga Beken, short for “Braga Bebas Kendaraan” (Braga Vehicle-Free), is ready to welcome tourists spending their weekend holiday in Bandung. The popular car-free program on one of the city’s most famous streets is back, giving visitors a chance to stroll through the historic Braga area without traffic.
What Is Braga Beken?
The Bandung City Government has reopened the Braga Bebas Kendaraan program, known as Braga Beken. It works as the Car Free Day for the people of Bandung, turning Braga Street into a pedestrian-friendly space for the day.
After being halted for several months, the program is once again open to tourists. Braga Beken had been suspended because of budget management issues.
Why It Was Paused and How It Returned
Following an evaluation, the program was cleared to resume in October 2026. The latest session is being held on Sunday, October 11, 2026, and it marks the second time the program has opened since the first week of October 2026.
The comeback has stirred up enthusiasm among visitors, who are excited to walk around the Braga area in a vehicle-free setting.
Tourists Are Already Making Plans
“I already got the information that they’re holding the vehicle-free day again tomorrow. I just arrived in Bandung today, so I can come back here tomorrow and stroll around,” said Eko, 36, a tourist from Depok, on Saturday, October 10, 2026.
Eko came to Bandung with his small family. He said he doesn’t want to miss taking selfies on Braga Street once it becomes vehicle-free.
“Of course I want to take photos, since the place looks so nice. It’s also a chance to make keepsakes for social media,” he said.
Schedule and Local Preparations
Jaenudin, head of Sumur Bandung District, said Braga Beken will be held again. The program starts in the early hours of Sunday, October 11, 2026, at 00:00 WIB, and ends at midnight, 23:59 WIB, meaning the car-free window covers the entire day.
“Braga Beken has been running since last week, and tomorrow is the second session. Beyond informing nearby residents and business owners, we are collaborating with residents and the Bandung Environmental Agency (DLH) to create a cleaner, more orderly, and more comfortable Braga,” he said.
A Call for Order and Cleanliness
Jaenudin hopes both tourists and local residents will help keep things orderly during Braga Beken. Most importantly, he urged everyone to keep the area clean and avoid littering.
“The point is that we work together to keep things safe and orderly during tomorrow’s Braga Beken,” he concluded.
What This Means for Visitors
For travelers planning a weekend in Bandung, Braga Beken offers a relaxed way to enjoy the area’s heritage buildings, cafes, and photo spots without vehicle noise or congestion. Since the program only recently resumed, it is a good idea to check the latest schedule with the Bandung city government or local announcements before you go, as dates may change.
Visitors can also help the program last by following simple rules: dispose of trash properly, respect local businesses, and keep walkways clear. If the program continues smoothly, it could become a regular highlight of weekend tourism in Bandung.
