The temporary closure of Soekarno-Hatta Airport due to the Anak Krakatau eruption affected 642 flights and more than 75,000 passengers. To support travelers caught in the disruption, Angkasa Pura Indonesia has rolled out a range of free services for the duration of the airport shutdown.
Free Bus Transport for Stranded Passengers
One of the key services on offer is free bus transportation for passengers who still need to continue their journey. Travelers whose flights were canceled don’t need to pay a cent for these buses.
Yudistiawan, Assistant Deputy for Communication and Legal Affairs at Soekarno-Hatta Airport, said passengers interested in using this service can head directly to the command post staff located in each terminal to confirm their eligibility.
“Since last night, Angkasa Pura Indonesia management, particularly the Soekarno-Hatta Airport branch, has arranged dedicated buses for the Joglosemar route (Yogyakarta, Solo, and Semarang) and Surabaya. Around 4 buses and 2 Hiace vans already departed last night, mainly heading to Surabaya,” he said at Terminal 1B on Monday, September 7, 2026.
For today, bus departures from Soekarno-Hatta Airport are scheduled for 2:00 PM and 6:00 PM Western Indonesia Time (WIB).
How to Access the Free Bus Service
“The requirement is simply showing your ticket, confirming that you’re genuinely a booked passenger. At Terminal 1, the location point is at Terminal 1C, at the Terminal 1C command post. At Terminal 2, it’s near the Terminal 2E departure area, and at Terminal 3, it’s around the G3 departure zone,” he explained.
“For passengers who decide to travel by bus instead, please go ahead and contact our staff at these locations,” Yudistiawan said.
More Than Just Transport: Food and Rest Facilities
Beyond the free bus service, several additional support facilities have been made available. Yudistiawan mentioned that light snacks and rest areas are also being provided for affected passengers.
“We’ve also activated our service recovery efforts, which include providing free drinks and snacks. We’ve set up an employee lounge facility as well, with 60 beds available at Terminal 3. If any passengers would like to use that space to rest, please feel free to contact our staff,” Yudistiawan said.
What This Means If You’re Affected
If your flight has been disrupted by the Soekarno-Hatta closure, don’t hesitate to approach the command post staff at your terminal, free transport, snacks, and rest facilities are all available without needing to book or pay in advance. Given how quickly bus schedules and terminal locations can shift during an active disruption, it’s worth checking directly with airport staff for the latest departure times rather than relying solely on posted schedules.
