No lengthy waits, no rescheduled flights. That was the experience of one UAE national who managed to renew his passport in under 10 minutes, right at Dubai International Airport.
Even more remarkable: he did this after already arriving at the airport, just before his scheduled departure on Tuesday, September 16, 2026.
A Last-Minute Passport Problem
It was only at that point that he realized his passport didn’t meet the validity requirements for his destination country. His passport had roughly one month of validity left, while his destination required a minimum of six months remaining.
Rather than delaying his trip, he was able to renew his passport on the spot, right there at the airport, avoiding any need to postpone or cancel his travel plans.
This service is available exclusively to UAE nationals at Dubai International Airport.
“I was told nothing is faster than Dubai Airport, and the process would take 10 minutes,” he said, as quoted by India Today on Sunday, September 20.
“But I was surprised because the process turned out to be even faster, just eight minutes, not 10,” he added.
He was genuinely impressed by how quickly the service worked. His new passport was ready just minutes after submitting his application, meaning his travel plans weren’t disrupted at all. He also expressed pride in the UAE government’s service quality.
How the System Actually Works
According to Dubai Airports, Dubai International Airport offers a passport renewal facility specifically for UAE nationals at the Immigration Center, located in the Terminal 3 arrivals area. This facility is directly connected to the government’s immigration and citizenship system.
Through this system, eligible citizens’ data can be verified and passport applications processed entirely digitally. The relevant department stated that a process that previously took around 35 minutes can now be completed in as little as seven minutes.
This smart system has also cut the passport and identity processing steps from 20 stages down to just one. Eligible UAE citizens no longer need to handle paperwork through conventional means or visit a passport office in person.
Who Can Actually Use This Service
That said, this rapid service is only available to UAE nationals. Passengers holding other nationalities who run into passport validity issues at the airport still need to follow the standard procedures applicable to their own travel documents.
While this ultra-fast renewal service is limited strictly to UAE citizens for now, it’s a striking example of how far digital government infrastructure has come in streamlining what used to be one of travel’s biggest headaches. For travelers of any nationality, though, the real lesson here is universal: always double-check your passport’s remaining validity against your destination’s specific entry requirements well before departure day, since not every airport offers an eight-minute fix.
