Malaysia’s New Short Getaway: Penang, Perlis, and Langkawi in Just 4 Days

Langkawi

Looking for a quick escape that doesn’t skimp on variety? Tourism Malaysia and Indonesian airline TransNusa have teamed up once again, this time to shine a spotlight on a four-day, three-night trip covering three seriously underrated destinations: Penang, Perlis, and Langkawi.

The idea is simple, pack adventure, nature, culture, wellness, and food into one short trip, and prove to Indonesian travelers that Malaysia is basically right next door.

Why This Collaboration, Why Now

This partnership ties directly into the Visit Malaysia 2026–2027 campaign, with a clear focus on winning over the Indonesian market through experience-driven, content-first marketing rather than generic ads.

“Entering our third year of collaboration with TransNusa, we continue to see huge potential in the Indonesian market for Malaysia. We want to show that Malaysia isn’t just easy to reach, it also offers a diverse range of experiences packed into one short trip,” said Mohd Yakzan, Director of Tourism Malaysia Jakarta.

And getting there is genuinely hassle-free: TransNusa passengers get 20kg of free checked baggage, a 7kg cabin allowance, and generous legroom, making the whole trip feel more comfortable from the moment you board.

First Stop: Penang’s Culture and Food Scene

Once you land in Penang, you’re in for a serious culture-and-food deep dive. Wander through George Town and Harmony Street, two areas that capture Penang’s signature blend of heritage architecture and street-level charm.

Penang is one of Malaysia’s flagship destinations precisely because it manages to combine cultural heritage, incredible food, wellness offerings, and solid healthcare services, all in a compact area that’s perfect for a short trip.

For accommodation, the itinerary includes a stay at Bertam Resort & Waterpark Penang, a luxury property that positions itself as Muslim-friendly.

Next Up: Perlis, Malaysia’s Smallest (and Quietest) State

From Penang, the journey heads to Perlis, Malaysia’s smallest state, and arguably one of its most laid-back. Think slower landscapes, local culture, and quirky photo-worthy spots like Kangar Street Art and the colorful Kampung Warna Warni in Kuala Perlis.

It’s a nice contrast to Penang’s buzz: fewer crowds, more breathing room.

The Grand Finale: Langkawi

From Kuala Perlis, it’s a ferry ride over to Langkawi, where the trip really kicks into high gear. Highlights include:

  • A Premium Sunset Cruise
  • Riding the Langkawi SkyCab for panoramic island views
  • Island hopping by jet car
  • An after-dark experience at Dream Forest Langkawi

For rest between all that activity, travelers stay at The RIYAZ Lavanya Langkawi, with plenty of local food exploration built into the schedule too.

Easy Connectivity, Easy Getaway

For TransNusa, connectivity is the whole point. “Through our collaboration with Tourism Malaysia, we want to show Indonesian travelers that a trip to Malaysia can be easy, comfortable, and enjoyable. We hope this collaboration encourages more travelers to explore Malaysia’s destinations through TransNusa’s connectivity,” said Bernard Francis, CEO of TransNusa Group.

The Bottom Line

Tourism Malaysia and TransNusa are betting that once Indonesian travelers see how accessible, and how varied, a Malaysia trip can be, short getaways like this one will become a go-to option.

Whether you’re chasing good food, cultural landmarks, wellness experiences, or outdoor adventure, this Penang-Perlis-Langkawi route seems built to check every box in just four days.
