Super Air Jet Launches 6 New Direct Routes From Bandung’s Husein Sastranegara Airport

Super Air Jet

Super Air Jet has begun opening direct flights from Husein Sastranegara Airport in Bandung to several cities across Indonesia. A total of six new routes will roll out in phases.

The six routes include Bandung-Medan (Kualanamu), Bandung-Bali (Denpasar), Bandung-Pekanbaru, Bandung-Makassar, Bandung-Pontianak, and Bandung-Balikpapan.

Flights connecting Bandung-Medan, Bandung-Bali, and Bandung-Pekanbaru began operating on Friday, September 18, 2026. Meanwhile, the Bandung-Makassar and Bandung-Pontianak routes started service on Saturday, September 19, followed by Bandung-Balikpapan on Tuesday, September 22.

Bandung’s Mayor Welcomes the Expansion

Bandung Mayor Muhammad Farhan said these new routes are a positive response to Husein Sastranegara Airport’s revival as one of Bandung’s key aviation gateways.

According to him, the Bandung-Medan and Bandung-Denpasar routes carry significant potential, given strong demand among Bandung residents. Medan is also seen as an important connectivity hub linking Bandung and Bali.

“Medan to Bandung transits, then carries passengers from Bandung onward to Denpasar. This is arguably one of the most in-demand routes, matching the needs of Bandung residents who are heavily connected to both Medan and Denpasar,” he said.

Farhan noted that Super Air Jet’s entry complements earlier moves by state-owned carriers Garuda Indonesia and Citilink, which have also resumed flights from Husein Sastranegara Airport.

“As a beneficiary of this development, I’m genuinely happy that Bandung residents can now connect with two important cities outside Java,” he said, adding that he felt genuinely moved hearing jet engines flying out of Husein Sastranegara Airport once again.

Strong Early Demand, According to Lion Group

Lion Group President Director Captain Daniel Putut Kuncoro Adi said the company is ready to support Husein Sastranegara Airport’s renewed flight activity.

According to him, Bandung is an important choice for Lion Group in restoring flight connectivity from the city. He noted that Lion Group has sufficient fleet capacity to support the launch of these new Bandung routes. Following the Medan and Denpasar routes, flights to Pontianak, Balikpapan, and Makassar are set to follow.

Captain Daniel said passenger load factor on the Medan-Bandung and Bandung-Denpasar routes has already reached around 90%. “Our load factor is at 90%, both from Medan to Bandung and from Bandung to Denpasar,” he said.

Room to Grow if the Airport Regains International Status

According to Captain Daniel, Husein Sastranegara Airport also has significant growth potential if it eventually regains international airport status.

He noted that the airport’s technical capacity could support up to approximately 25 flights per day, depending on operational arrangements and service hours. “If the airport becomes a 24-hour international airport, its capacity would be quite strong,” he said.

What This Means for Travelers

With six new direct routes launching from Bandung and load factors already hitting 90% on early routes, this expansion opens up significantly more convenient travel options for Bandung residents heading to Medan, Bali, Pekanbaru, Makassar, Pontianak, and Balikpapan, no more needing to route through Jakarta first. If you’re planning trips between Bandung and any of these cities, it’s worth checking Super Air Jet’s schedule directly, especially given how quickly these early routes appear to be filling up.
